ELSA Supervision
What is ELSA supervision?
ELSA supervision is a key component of the Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) programme.
Following completion of initial training, the ELSA Network states that all ELSAs must attend at least 4 out of 6 group supervision sessions each year to continue to be registered as an ELSA.
Psychology 360 ELSA supervision takes place each half term in small groups of around 8 ELSAs, led by an Educational Psychologist.
ELSA supervision ensures that ELSAs receive the necessary professional and ethical support to carry out their work to an appropriate standard in school.
Why is ELSA supervision important?
Problem Solving and Guidance - ELSAs can discuss challenges, seek advice on casework, and explore strategies to improve their interventions.
Professional Development - Supervision sessions provide opportunities for continued learning, sharing resources, and developing best practice.
Emotional Wellbeing for ELSAs - Working with vulnerable children can be emotionally demanding. Supervision offers a safe space for ELSAs to reflect, debrief, and manage their own wellbeing.
Peer Support - ELSAs are able to build links with other ELSAs, sharing expertise and developing a sense of belonging within a local ELSA community.
Ensuring Safe and Ethical Practice.
ELSA supervision with Psychology 360
We currently supervise over 40 ELSAs across Leicestershire and Leicester City. We are incredibly proud of the strong and supportive ELSA family which we have built.
ELSAs do not need to have trained with us to join our ELSA supervision groups. We are always keen to welcome new and previously accredited ELSAs to our Psychology 360 supervision groups.
We receive amazing feedback from our ELSAs following supervision. Comments include:
The ELSA supervisors really care and want to make ELSAs feel empowered and brilliant to take all their knowledge and training back to schools. They are warm and welcoming and understanding of everyone’s unique positions in the schools they may work in.
You are very much supported, and you all feel like you are part of a team.
I have been lucky enough to be in an amazing group of inspiring people who inspire me to be a better ELSA. The group that I am with are all fabulously supportive as is my supervisor.
I couldn’t be the ELSA I am today without the support from Psychology 360.
My supervisor is extremely supportive, is very knowledgeable, a great facilitator and the sessions always leave me going back to school feeling positive about the role and the work I am doing.
We are accredited by the ELSA Network and remain the only ELSA training provider in Leicestershire to hold the ELSA Quality Mark, in recognition of the high standard we provide to our ELSAs.
